Friends of Church School

Chairman’s Report

Friends of Barnoldswick C of E School

Prepared by Gill Ashworth

September 2007 - July 2008

This School year was our second full school year under our title of the friends of

Church school.

We remain a group of people supporting Church school by raising money &

organising social events for the school, therefore aiming to enhance the education

of its pupils. Our meetings are open to people with a desire to support the school

other than parents & teachers so they might lend a hand at our events.

A very big thank you to those members who have managed to spare the time to

fulfil leading roles within the organisation, our Vice chair, Treasurer, Secretary,

Advertising/PR team & refreshment team.

I would also like to recognise all those parents/supporters of the school who gave

up their valuable time to attend the meetings & help out at our many organised

events. It is very encouraging also to see the numbers of people who often can’t

make the meetings yet still offer their help at our events on the day & showing

their support the school.

I would like to thank Mrs Darcy & the teachers who have given their valuable

time to events run by the friends & for their guidance in utilising the funds

raised for maximum benefit of the children.

2007-2008 has been overall a successful year for the Friends fundraising & social

activity efforts. Our hard core of helpers of parents & school staff again seemed

to double their efforts as they seem to have year on year to continue with our

usual programme of events this school year.

Although we have attracted a few new members to our ranks we still seem to be

a little thin on the ground at some of our fundraising events & therefore have not

greatly added to our number of social or fundraising events.

School discos

We held our usual 3 disco’s this year the Saints & Sausages disco, Valentines

disco both held at the school & a School leavers disco which we held again at

Rolls Royce social club for the 3rd year running as a more family event which

still proved to be a popular event & was greatly enjoyed by attending be those

children, friends or parents . The DJ as ever included fun games for the children

& we ran a raffle again on the night.

Whilst these are primarily social events for the children & they are well attended

by both Infants & juniors & these events are still making a contribution to P.T.A

funds.

Girls Night

A great night was had by those mums & daughters attending, there was lots of

opportunity to start & purchase for Christmas with local businesses having stall

space & making a donation of profits to the school, we also ran a raffle on the

night & this made a profit for our funds.

Social trips

A big thankyou to Claire McGlashan for her organisation of a new programme

of social events which included the Christmas market shoppers coach trip to

Manchester & are expanding this forthcoming school year. As well as providing

us all with a fun social calendar they make a little profit for the funds too.

Fund raising events organised

Coaster fund raiser

Children designed a picture which was made up in to a laminated coaster or

other merchandise by an outside company Crafty Ideas. These were great &

made a profit for funds but it was difficult from an administrative point of view

& won’t be repeated this next year.

Christmas fair

It was held last year with the regular features of the raffle and many fabulous

prizes donated by local businesses helping to boost funds. Exciting stalls, games

and Santa’s grotto proved ever popular with the children.

SPRING FAIR

This year we resurrected the spring fair after trying a week in the Liberal shop

the previous year we decided that the spring fair was more fun for the children

& brought in a similar amount of money to the funds.

School events supported by P.T.A

The annual sponsored event our ever popular bounce was our first event of

the school year. This gave us a good start to the fund raising year with great

Participation from the children gaining sponsors & all having fun on the day

Friends members helped provide supervision on the day.

Benefits provided by P.T.A

Equipment various

Subsidising of trips

Christmas party entertainment, food & a gift from Santa

Visiting entertainment for the children in school

Educational speakers & music tuition to enhance the curriculum.

New games for the spring fair

I look forward to another enjoyable & profitable year in 2008-2009 fundraising

with friends.
